Kirkwood: The Right Choice.
Thanks for visiting our real estate website. I'm sure it comes as no surprise there is more selection than ever before right now in Kirkwood at prices we haven't seen in many years, including home sites, fractional ownership, condominiums, townhomes, duplexes and single family homes.
If you have a few minutes, I'd encourage you to read my comments on Kirkwood, and our real estate market, as I think you'll find them both interesting and valuable as you consider joining our unique community as a property owner now or sometime in the near future.
With respect to the real estate market, the biggest difference between Kirkwood and most other resorts around the region that offer property ownership opportunities is our general lack of speculation, which keeps inventories in check and prices more stable than you might expect. Kirkwood is not the type of resort where large developers look to build hundreds of units with anxious buyers in their wake looking to cash in on speculative price inflation, even during the good times we've seen throughout most of this decade. We're too small a community for that to work, and there are other, more suitable resorts for that type of investment. More importantly, people who buy property in Kirkwood do so because they want to be here; we call them 'users' as opposed to 'investors.' They are passionate about the resort well before they buy, and when they do, its predicated upon an expectation of many years of year round enjoyment with friends and family. If they earn a good return on their property when they eventually sell, that's fine, but they seldom make a real estate purchase with a sale in mind.
The 2009/10 ski season will be my 17th in Kirkwood, including 13 years as Resort President. I've had the luxury of visiting almost every major resort in the nation over the past three decades, and have seen dozens of ski communities of every type. I can say without hesitation Kirkwood is one of the most unique I've ever seen. While we'll never have a large village with major shopping and dozens of restaurants, we'll always have a distinct advantage in perhaps the most important way: an approved and defined master plan that ensures Kirkwood will never be crowded, either on or off the mountain. It will always be a cozy, secluded, high adventure community with wide open slopes, world class terrain and by far the best snow in the region.
