The Kirkwood Community… As unique as the mountain itself.
What's the sign of a great community? People know each other. They’re true friends that enjoy many of the same activities, and have many of the same priorities. Take the Kirkwood community.
 Probably one of our long time residents said it best: “Even though Kirkwood is my second home, I spend more time with my neighbors there than I do at my home in the Bay area.” That’s a pretty revealing statement, and we suspect true for most of the community.
Kirkwood people have a different priority system than what you’ll find at most other Sierra resorts. Smaller is better. Privacy is important. Trading shopping, fine dining and entertainment for world class scenery and outdoor adventure is just fine.
 The Kirkwood Community skis together, hikes together, rides mountain bikes, boats and swims in the nearby lakes, and enjoy dinners together. Their kids are all on the race team. They enjoy lunch in their “unofficial” section of the Mountain Village plaza. They don’t miss the events, including the Volunteer Fire Department Annual BBQ, the 5/10K, the Chili Cook-Off, Christmas Tree Lighting, Pizza and Tubing, the Tennis Tourney and the Fishing Derby. If someone needs something, they just walk across the street and borrow it. It’s part of life in Kirkwood, and it’s just another reason our residents think it’s such a special place.
